2014 Holiday Gift Guide Presents Dot & Bo

christmas 14 031

If you’re in the market for unique home décor for holiday gift giving, Dot & Bo may be the answer. Although Dot & Bo offers many incredible choices for recipients, for this review, we’re going to take a look at their Steampunk Clock.

Now, if you aren’t familiar with the term, Steampunk is essentially a style that showcases machinery, especially the 19th century’s. You’ll notice that in Steampunk décor items, you’ll see the gears & various moving internal works. Dot & Bo has taken this trend & provided one of the coolest clocks you’ll ever own.

My kids went nuts over this clock. It’s so much fun to watch! Made from stainless steel & plastic, the numbers are huge although the clock itself is ideally sized for a desktop. Each time the numbers flip, it clicks. They remind me of flipping a Rolodex.  You’ll hear the mechanism running, but it isn’t loud or overpowering as a larger clock might 14 033

As an added plus, it only requires one ‘D’ battery. Being cordless not only allows for restraint –free moving, but makes it handy for smaller homes, dorms, or apartments. I don’t have the best eyesight so I Iove that I can literally see the time from across the room. The black & white numbers, highlighted by the stainless, make it an easy fit into any home’s color scheme. You don’t have to be into Steampunk to appreciate its features.

Bonus number two: no assembly! All I had to do was slide the battery into the large battery compartment. Easy-to-read opening & closing instructions are printed on the compartment. No screwdriver. No acrobatics. Just insert the battery & you’re done. Time is set by twisting the dial until the desired time is achieved.

Right now this beauty is selling for $34.99 which is 30% SRP. Haven’t shopped Dot & Bo before? You’re in for a treat! They’ve been featured on a number of Medias such as Refinery 29 & HGTV. Offering gifts from décor to terrariums, Dot & Bo have it all! There’s an entire section on the website for gifts under $25! Now, that’s awesome. Click around for design ideas & inspirational posts. I could spend all day looking at all they have on sale! Make your list, check it twice, & give them Dot & Bo!

2014 Holiday Gift Guide Presents Set Games

stuff 001  Family owned & operated Set Games has provided consumers with a number of award-winning games. In this same tradition, they bring us ‘Karma’.

Two to Six players (ages 8+) can participate in this family card game. Using an elimination system, a ‘Karma’ winner is crowned when all of his or her cards are gone. Much like a ‘wild’ card in traditional card games, ‘Karma’ cards can be used to bail a player out of trouble. However, as the title implies, be careful with these cards as what goes around comes around.stuff 007

My family found ‘Karma’ to be a lot of fun. All 3 boys easily picked up on how to play & how not to play. As it usually goes, our youngest did the best. He’s a very good gamer! We also enjoyed that twist of the last player who has cards left loses. In a way, it makes everyone else a winner. The boys got a kick out of that. It creates a good competitive spirit & less sour grapes when the same person wins constantly.

As a parent, I love that it has a MSRP of $12.99 & appreciate that the box is small in size. We don’t have a lot of room to store games so I like that it can easily slide into a cabinet until the next Family Game Night. Both my husband & I were impressed with the number of awards that Set Games has won. ‘Karma’ itself is an award-winning game.

To be specific, in 2014, ‘Karma’ received: Parent’s Choice, MENSA Recommended Designation, Top Summer Toys from The Toy Insider, & The National Parenting Center Seal of Approval. That’s very impressive!

stuff 008 On their website,, you’ll find all their outstanding game offerings as well as downloadable games. I love that they offer replacement parts & printable instructions for their games if you need them. To me, that’s great customer service.

You can find out more about Karma & Set’s other games at the following Medias:

2014 Holiday Gift Guide Presents Hickory Wickery

hickory 002Hickory, North Carolina is home to one of the United States’ best candle companies. While it’s not a huge retail store, it’s got more heart & love in it than any other. One woman with a dream to make other people’s lives glow a little brighter has brought a gift to us in the form of Hickory Wickery.
Jessica Larson is the heart behind the candles. Hand pouring each of her candles may be no easy task, but it’s a labor of love for Jessica. In fact, she’s so dedicated that her usual completion time is 3-5 days! With Hickory Wickery, you’ll find handcrafted quality & amazing scents, some of which are quite unique.
hickory 003One example is her Aftershave wax melts. She was right on when she suggested this scent for my testosterone filled home! My boys often complain about my ‘girlie’ candles. When they smelled this wax melts, they were in love. It’s a powerhouse of scent, but not overpowering. Wherever you choose to use wax melts, the room will be filled with fragrance. Aftershave is part of her Masculine Collection. Dark grey is color; it’s a mix of natural patchouli and cedar wood essential oils. Melts are offered in 6 or 12 packs for $3 or $5.50. Those are amazing prices!hickory 004
hickory 001For a more traditional candle, this Apple Cinnamon scent is hand-poured in a mason jar. Its beautiful red color is matched only by its rich apple cinnamon aroma. Like all her candles, this one is made with highest quality food grade paraffin and American soy wax blend. We chose it burn it in one of the bedrooms. Even with the door open, its scent wafted everywhere. Honestly, the kids thought I was baking! Incredibly, its burn time is 80-85 hours! Can you believe that? Fabulous! This 16 ounce jar candle is only $10. hickory 007
hickory 008Last but certainly not least, I have to tell you about the Caramelized Praline. Oh my goodness! I am in love with this one. It smells better than any dessert & with fewer calories. Warm vanilla caramel, dark brown sugar and butter-drenched pecans is a winning combo! Poured into this adorable 6 ounce tin, it has a burn time of 35-40 hours. For only $5.50, it’s a steal. hickory 005
Aside from the scents that make a house a home, what I love about Hickory Wickery is that it’s a small business, run right here in the US. Jessica is the only employee & she has a heart of gold. At this time of year, when big corporate businesses are volleying for your attention & money, think about buying gifts from the type of business that this country was founded on. As Jessica will tell you, candles are everywhere. But what you won’t find as easily is a candle maker with such love for her craft, who pours each one by hand, & takes exceptional pride in her business.hickory 006
Outstanding customer service, above average products, bargain prices, & support of small business makes Hickory Wickery a winner for your Holiday season. Please visit her at one of the following Medias:
