First Time With Contour/Highlighter

I purchased these products myself. Not a sponsored post.

Yesterday, I went for it. For several weeks, I’ve had in my possession, the contour & highlighters. They were so intimidating to me. I don’t know why. I just didn’t want to look like a self-tanning, inept make-up novice, I guess. I’ve seen so many Youtubers do it. My ‘Liked Videos’ are full of how-tos.

So, I took the step when Rite-Aid had a BOGO 75% off sale. Then, I looked at Amazon for brushes. I chose the Niki Garret ones. Then, I figured, after the way things have been going these last few weeks, I needed to do something fun, for me. Once I realized that most contouring Youtubers are in their twenties, with perfect skin, filters, and no flaws, I searched for a fuller face. I found a video featuring a self-professed plus-sized girl! Hooray! I am one, too! Even my face seems to be plus-sized.

So, I watched the video twice. I sat at the kitchen table, make-up mirror lit up like a runway, and prepared. I had all my other make-up on, except blush, per instruction. My husband was home and found this whole thing quite entertaining! I started the video from the beginning, taking great pains to do every blessed step. I watched as the guru took each brush and dipped it into her contour. I will say she had a WAY bigger palette than I did. However, I chose my contour color based on my skin tone. She was very tan, almost orange-y.

As I followed along, my intimidation with the products dissipated. I rationalized that if I totally botched it, I could grab the micellar water and off it’d go. I carefully used the contour brushes. My husband came up behind me and said it looked good. Oh my heart! Ok, we’re doing it! I blended as she did and then applied my blush.

Now, I was actually trying NOT to smile. I continued the video as I went on to the highlighter. I looked in the mirror, having completed the routine, and was pleased. My husband reaffirmed that he thought it looked good. I had tried something new and succeed! It was such a feeling of accomplishment. I texted my mom, aunt, and sister. I even put product pics on Instagram. I don’t feel confident enough to show my face in pics, but, knowing I had really done it was amazing.

I will continue to branch out as I’m able. But, there’s one more fear conquered!

Frozen Pipes and Dog Sweaters

Yesterday was one for the books. We have had a number of ups and downs with temps. Weird precipitation- we went through rain, sleet, & than snow all within hours thanks to a storm named Harper. Odd name for an odd storm. Regardless, we thought we were well prepared.

Thought being the key word. We were mistaken. Monday it hit -1. I was so very thankful that my fur babies had their sweaters. Although Buster insists that his be removed as soon as he enters the house, I felt that it was worth the trouble. I worry about Butter most. Little dogs normally don’t do well in weather this cold. She’s a snow bunny at heart, often we have to be stern to get her into the house. She loves her sweater. I’m grateful for that, too.

I limited her time and watched her out the window. As soon as she was finished, I rushed her in. As an added benefit, they looked gosh darn adorable. Even though they are Christmas-themed, who cares? It was a bright spot in the day.

I know for fact that I had left the water trickling in the bathroom. Somehow, someone turned it off. We woke up to frozen pipes. My husband cancelled his work for the day and had to stay home. Because of our rural conditions, things to do with erosion and water collecting in strange places, we’ve had difficulties before. But, this is the first time since we got public water that our pipes froze.

Due to the heavy rain the day before, we also had incredible, epic flooding around where the pipes are located. Those leading to the house were fine. These were the ones which would’ve been exposed to the elements. However, he’d insulated them. What he discovered, though, was that the heavy rain had caused all the insulation to collapse. This resulted in the flooding and freezing.

Now, we were in a pickle. Forecasters had called for Tuesday being the only good day this week. Being that it gets dark around 5:30, we were up against the clock. The warmest part of the day was between 10 and 11 AM. Due to the flooding, my poor husband had to balance himself on a 2×4 with a welding torch. It would’ve been funny if it hadn’t been so tragic.

A lot of prayer and a few hours later, we saw a trickle of water. Unfortunately, the pressure regulator switch had died in the deep freeze. A trip to Lowe’s, more prayer, and some above freezing temps and we had water again. Now, we have to figure out how to keep it from happening again. More prayer!
